Fernando "El Torito" Cavenaghi

El Torito, that people called him.  His name Fernando Ezequiel Cavenaghi, born at O'Brien, Buenos Aires, Argentine 21th September 1983, currently play at Pachuca Mexico. Man who has 183 cm heigh and 78 kilograms weight. He gets his nickname when he played at River Plate. El Torito means little bull in Spanish language. He called El Torito because his playing like a bull, beast, clever and strong. His can use both feet and his head.

Cavenaghi starts his career at River Plate, he played 88 times from 2001 to 2004 with 55 goals. Many people predict he will be a star player in future. With his first professional club, he get 3 times Clausura winner from 2002, 2003 and 2004. He became league topcorer at 2002 with 15 goals, next two years he completed top big five top scorers.

At summer windows transfer El Torito decide to play at Spartac Moscow who bought him for £6.500.000, a strength decision I think, because with his performance he can get better club. He played for Spartak for 3 seasons, scoring 12 goals from 55 appearances. It’s not a good performance for the bright player actually.

But his talenta make one of big French Club recruit him at 19th January 2007 for undisclosed fee, but media told that FC Girondins de Bordeaux should paid at least €11 Million.  Here he enjoyed his career at Les Girones because he get some thropies here. Les Girones get Coupe de League 2 times at 2008 and 2009, Ligue-1 Champions at 2009, and 2 times get Thropee Des Champions at 2008 and 2009. From his 83 appearances , he can scores 33 times.  First year at France, he can score 22 goals from 35 matches, his performance make Alfilo Basile caled him to Argentine squad againts Egypt at 26 March 2008. Next season he help former Zidane’s club get sixth Ligue-1 Champions with his 13 goals from 29 league mathes. His duet with Marouane Chamakh or Sylvain Wiltord fears other teams.

Unfortunately since 2009 his career disturbed by many injuries.  Before he ends his contract at Bordeaux, he twice loaned to Mallorca, Spain at 2010 and Internacional, Brazil at 2011. At Spain he scored 6 times from his 13 appearance. At Brazil he only played out of major league, but he helped Internacional reach 2011 Campeonato Gaúcho title. 

After his contract ends at Bordeaux, Cavenaghi help his previous club at Argentine, River Plate which played at Primera B Nacional and strugle back to Primera Division at 2011. At River, he played alongside David Trezeguet, ex Juventus player. Both Collaboration makes River Plate promotes again to Primera Division as primera B Nacional winners. He scored 19 times from 37 mathes. 

After helped his former club back to Primera Division, El Torito joins Villareal at 9 August 2012. At this time Villareal was fight for promotion too. He Played with Walter Pandiani, Uche etc. And his injured disturb him again. Alltough plays with his injury, he plays 18 times and scored 4 times and helped The Yellow Submarine back to La Liga Primera Division. 

With his injuries, Villareals boss doesn’t want to extend his contract, so he joins to other club, and Pachuca is next destination. So far the number 26 played 19 times and makes 4 goals, and Pachuca laid at 12th on the table. 

When his young, Cavenaghi linked with Gabriel Omar Batistuta. He have strong body, and strong shoot and real predator at Penalty area. His performance makes him a first choice for Argentine U-20’s coach. He played alongside Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Pablo Zabaleta. Argentine gets 2003 South America Youth Championship winner and become Tops Scorer with 8 goals. But Argentine fail to get 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship, become top scorer with 4 goals as same as goals from Dudu, Daisuke Sakata and Eddie Johnson. 

Intersesting to see his Transfer Market graphics from his first transfer till now. When he join to Spartak, he valued at £8.800.000 at 2004, his valued goes down when he transferred to Bordeaux in 2007 and his value only £5.300.000/. After he make good starts at Les Girondins, his valued increased to £10.500.000 at September 2008 and reach his peak valued when get Ligue-1 title in 2009, El Torito get valued for £12.500.000. 

Next period, el Torito played for lower club and makes his value down and down again. When Cavenaghi join River Plate in Juni 2011 on free transfer, his value only £800.000. Although he involved in River’s success to get promoted again and score 19 goals, his valued only increased £75.000. and now, when he played at Pachuca, his value by Transfermarket.com is £750.000. An irony for a talented played like Cavenaghi.
